Stranger Than Fiction title sequence

Stranger Than Fiction title sequence

I remember watching this unusual (for him) Will Ferrell film back in 2006 and being spellbound by the title sequence. If you enjoy the combination of movies and nice typography, there is little doubt that you would have checked out Art of the Titlea compendium and leading web resource of film and television title design from around the world.

The opening titles for Stranger Than Fiction were designed by Kansas City based MK12.

If the video below does not load, see the Stranger Than Fiction title sequence here.

Great gig poster designed by Curtis Lynn Jinkins from Austin, Texas. What I enjoy most about it is the interesting balance: even though the abstract graphic dominates the majority of the space, the composition would be nothing without the carefully considered typography.

Video game title screens from the good old days

Title Scream hosts a very impressive collection of 16- and 8-bit game graphics. A nostalgic little trip down memory lane for some, an education for the rest!

I’m not sure how long Title Scream has been around, but everyone and their dog was tweeting about it today. This pixelicious site hosts a very impressive collection of 16- and 8-bit game graphics. Curated by Cameron Askin of Wellington, New Zealand, Title Scream offers a nostalgic little trip down memory lane for some and an education for the rest! Here’s a little appetizer:

Striking event branding by Your Friends

Oslo based agency Your Friends designed this identity and promotional material in 2009 for the Norwegian design seminar Edit.

Oslo based agency Your Friends designed this identity and promotional material in 2009 for the Norwegian design seminar Edit. They have a very complicated explanation about the thinking behind the design on their site:

The concept and idea is based on the theme effect. An effect is regarded as a concluded result, and can be used as a base for directions chosen while developing. The overall idea was to research a form of “study” on the effect of design, in which the seminars target-group took part in the process of building the identity.

I really like the overall cohesive effect (no pun intended) of the branding, it has a bit of a David Carson flavour:

Meticulous handcrafted type by Happycentro

I love these elaborate typographic creations by Italian agency Happycentro. The fact that these were done by hand, instead of simulating the textures, shapes and lighting in Photoshop, is awesome!

I love these elaborate typographic creations by Italian agency Happycentro. The fact that these were done by hand, instead of simulating the textures, shapes and lighting in Photoshop, is awesome. What strikes me is how the illustrations look okay in isolation, but they only really come to life on the pages of the magazine as part of the layout!

These lovely art book covers were designed in 2007 by Barcelona based Klas Ernflo. Unfortunately they were rejected by the publisher, but such is the life of a graphic designer! Klas doesn’t say what font he used, but the lettering looks like it may be based on a Modern typeface with some custom tweaks.
